Some of you out there probably know that I am a space nut. I love anything relating to the early days of the US space program. The Apollo program holds an especially significant place in my heart. I’ve been this way since the 5th grade.
A few years ago, after I finished up my Master’s degree, I set about doing an Apollo themed graphic novel. Unfortunately, life got in the way and it found itself higher and higher on the shelf of forgotten projects. While cleaning off that shelf late last year I came across the sketches and story and wondered why I never finished it.
Well, the sole 2014 New Year resolution made by me was to finish it. Not only finish it, but to do it by the end of this year… kinda sorta like Kennedy challenging the nation to get to the moon by the end of the 1960’s. I don’t have a publisher in mind or any aspirations to even find a publisher…this is a labor of love I started way back in Mrs. Voisine’s 5th grade classroom.
In order to give myself that extra bit of encouragement, I decided that I would completely finish one of the pages I have so far. This way if I ever get discouraged about it, I can look at the cool page I already finished and become inspired all over again.
I’ve posted a shot of the original sketched page along side the pencils for the finished page. More to come. Any external encouragement would be wonderful as well.
