My idea of what the Snow Bob will ultimately look like in the spot that I want. Franklyn Field, Rome, NY.
On Sunday, February 8, 2015, with the help of any volunteers that show up, I will build a Snow Bob the Squirrel. The idea hit me hard yesterday morning, but it hit me softly the days before… as I was removing snow from my house, driveway etc.
I’ve never once complained about shoveling snow. Not once. I suppose I don’t have the gene that hates snow shoveling. I thought, “If I’m going to be moving snow, why not make something out of it?” And since I have squirrels on my brain anyway, it seemed a proper fit. I sent a message to Lori Colasanti Frieden who immediately was on board. She put the word out… she’s REALLY good at that.
Things went uphill (pun) from there. It’s scary and exciting. The last time I did any kind of snow sculpture was in 9th grade. I’m sure snow hasn’t changed much 25 years.
The fun will start at 10am on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Franklyn’s Field, N. James St., Rome. Bring any snow moving tools (shovels, carts) you want to use. My idea is to make snow blocks in the general shape of Bob and then I’ll carve them out. I just need help moving the snow.
Additionally, we’d also like to collect any kind of donations in the form of supplies for the Rome Humane Society. PLEASE NOTE: Bringing a donation is not required to help with the sculpture.
Hopefully the snow is packy on Sunday! I’ll be posting photos throughout the day documenting my process. Where once there was snow, there will be squirrel.
